Abstract: The air that we breathe is a very important natural source. Its quality can have significant effect on human health. It is suspected that especially ultrafine particles could have an influence on human health. However the knowledge on health effects of ultrafine particles is still limited. The main aim of the EU founded project UFIREG is to investigate the short-term effects of ultrafine particles on mortality and morbidity. Until the end of 2014 environmental and medical experts from four European countries will work together to make a contribution to t he environmental policy in Europe and so help to reduce air pollution, improve air quality and consequently help saving people’s health in Europe.
